PalmOne T5

Get myself a PalmOne T5. Here's my sharing of the experience playing n fondling with it. I think most of the reader already know the specs of this unit so i'm not going to repead it here. There's more objective and comprehansive reviews of T5 on the net especially one written by Lance of 1src forum ( http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70582&page=1&pp=15 ) .

For some reason, the T5 comes with half charged. (I wonder y? and would it coz the battery to suffer without charging it full for the 1st use? ) However it's good in a way that one can check on it in the store itself (with PalmOne's poor track record in their quality control, this is kind of important)

I like the form factor. It's like a TE but slightly thicker and longer, the feel of the plastic case it much better then the E and the shade of the casing is much nicer. It not like TE which attracts finger print! I'm happy without the slider.

The buttons and D-Pad is nice. The power button is slightly depressed from the surface which prevent accidental power-on. Pressing on the D-Pad when power off does nothing now. The way the D-Pad response is defferent in PalmOS 5.4. I sort of like the old way better, in T5, u'll need to tap on the screen more frequently vs one hand operation on older version of the OS.

I do miss the LED indicator. One thing I'd miss most is the voice recorder. I dun use it often but it does comes handy when i need to record some conversation, instruction, or conference/lecture.

I dun have any UC accessories, so I dun miss the UC at all. However I do hope PalmOne decided on wht's their 'universor' connector now... dun just change the connector every 2 yrs or so..

The LCD screen is very good. It's slightly dimmer (just slightly) which makes it more comfortable to read. It does has a bluish tint but i like it. My T2 now seems too bright n abit yellowish compare to the T5 with the same brightness setting. The image is very sharp and enjoy reading on it with both landscape and portrait mode.

One thing I dun like about the hardware is the reser hole. One need to unscrew the stylus to poke into the reset key. I like the larger hole on my T2.

The T5 takes 43 seconds to load up after a soft reset! 7 sec on a PalmOne screen ( it was 8-10 before installing the update), 33 sec on Palm Powered screen and 3 sec on the Tungsten screen.

Lets talk abit on the softwares comes with T5.

The can allow one to change his/her wallpaper now. HOwever it still categorise all the applications in the SD card in the same category. If only it allows us to mix the applications in main memory and SD card in the same category, I wouldn't need my LauncherX.

The new is a nice alternative to the launcher. It too allow one to set his/her own wallpaper. Tap and hold on the home icon now brings up a list of recently used applications, very nice feature to allow switching from application to another without exit to launcher.

There's a new application called which is almost like the old which help one to setup the T5's bluethooth link with phone and this adds setting link with PC or LAN.

The is now v.5.4.1P but still doesn't shows the sender's ID other then the phone #. Disappointing with Palmsource.

The new web browser, v4.0 is faster then the . Never encounter 'not enough memory to load this page' error msg on the T5 (I often get that msg on my T2 running WebProV).

Will b continue....
